Corona virus known as Covid-19 has brought massive changes in South Africa and those changes are now permanent people must live under certain rules in order to survive.

It has been full 2 years since the President of South Africa has announced that from March 2020 the country will be under lockdown, where no one was allowed to move, and no one was allowed to work during these hard times.

sorce google

The National Lockdown led to many job losses in the country, small and big business had to close because nothing was operating in the country. Most employees lost their jobs unfairly because businesses were suffering loss.

The economic destruction caused by Covid-19 has left millions of people in the country without their source of income. The spread of Covid-19 is causing pressure on vulnerable household.

“In 2020 employers dismissed lot of workers unfairly and unfortunately, I was one of those works who were retrenched. What makes it worse is that they didn’t even follow any protocols they just fired us without even a single warning. I was the only breadwinner at home, and we suffered a lot because of this pandemic,” said Mr. Zithulele Khumalo one of the employees who were retrenched in 2020 during National Lockdown.

Poverty has risen in the country since many people were early retrenched, these reasons led to many people doing wrong things like crime.

Job losses were reported by all industries, but the moderate job losses were reported in the transport industry with 35 000 jobs, mining industry with 12 000 jobs, electricity industry with 3000 jobs, and full-time jobs decreased by 541 000.

Job crisis in 2020 was turning in social life crisis. The Covid-19 pandemic has triggered one of the worst crises. The real danger is that this crisis will increase poverty, crime and widen inequality between women and men.

The Covid-19 job loss erased the last decade of employment growth, job losses in the informal sector and among domestic works together represent half of total employment losses.

A Domestic worker, Miss Nakedi Nkomo  said, “I was just a regular domestic worker supporting my family. I was called and told that I am fired due to Covid-19 they told me they are letting me go because I won’t be any help since they will now be home full time those words broke my heart into 1 thousand pieces.”

Corona virus has brought nothing but sadness in the country even in the taxi industry they had to let go of their drivers since nothing was working properly.

A taxi owner, Mr. Nathi Mthembu said “I lost lot of money because taxes were moving at a certain time and no taxi was allowed to be full I had to let go my loyal employees because I had no other option left.”

South Africa has overcome the dark situation and lots of people were employed back by their companies.

Heritage Month is that time of the year where everyone in South Africa is being reminded of their cultural background.

In South Africa the younger generation seem to not know what the real purpose for Heritage celebration is. They are now lost and don’t have a clear background on what is Heritage and how it is celebrated.

Lihle student village is one of Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) residence based in Soshanguve extinction 19. On the 24th of September on Heritage Day Lihle student village hosted a Heritage Day celebration where they celebrated Heritage Day in a new Morden way.

Students were given an opportunity to compete against each other in a fun way, where every student was picking a tribe to represent.

“No one is allowed to choose their own tribe because there is no fun in that way and they won’t be gaining any knowledge on how other tribe do their things,” said the res manager and event organiser, Miss Sonto.

The events aim was for students to try different kind of things and experience how other people outside their tribe prepare their traditional food, traditional dance and how they wear their traditional outfits on special occasions.

Lindokuhle Khumalo a 20-year-old student from TUT who resides at Lihle student village and is Zulu from Newcastle KwaZulu Natal, chose to be a Tsonga for the day. She said that she is more than excited to get a chance to see how the Tsonga nation do their cultural activities including their songs, how to make their traditional food. “It was a great experiment because I learnt a lot of things and in the end me and my team won first place on the competition.”

“I would like to thank our res manager for this kind of experience I had to undergo today it was fun and I really enjoyed seeing other people wearing different kind of outfits and trying new things it was a fun experience indeed,” she added.

This kind of events reminds and teaches young students on what is Heritage Day, they are reminded to take Heritage Month and Heritage Day seriously.

This event was a great success they had to slaughter a Cow, brew traditional beer from scratch and make traditional food and wear traditional outfits for different tribes.  It was a great experience indeed for some of us who don’t even know our cultural backgrounds,” said Senzo Shiba Student who resides within the residence.

Volleyball is a rare and unique sport in South Africa, it is not popular like soccer, ruby etc. Volleyball is an organised sport, and it is associated with two teams of six players separated with a net.

During a volleyball game, players aim to win by scoring points by grounding a ball on the other team’s court under some certain organised rules.

From 21 to 24 September 2022, COSACSA invited all provinces from South Africa to participate in College Sports, Arts and Culture South Africa (COSACSA) National summer ball games that were held at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Pretoria Campus. These National games involved Volleyball, ladies’ soccer, male soccer, and basketball.

Tshepiso Makhubelo could not hide his excitement when he said, “I’m very excited to be part of the games and I’m hoping for the best in everything that will happen today.”

Mpumalanga volleyball club qualified at the National summer ball games held at TUT. In the national cut-throat challenge, the challenge was high and intense because all teams were well prepared, they won against all odds beating KwaZulu natal and Limpopo.

They are heading to Bloemfontein month end for national league. Hats off to all the participates and conquerors who toiled to bring home their hard-earned medals as a reward of their hard work.

Halala Mabuza is one of the players from KwaZulu Natal, he was asked what made them lose the match.

Amanda Nhlengethwa

”On my side I will say we were not well prepared for the game we didn’t have enough time to practise because they chose 4 players from Mfolozi, 1 ESayidi, and 7 from Majuba and that was not a good thing from the start to just mix us like that just because we’re all from KZN, we only met once on the ground only I think these reasons I’ve mentioned above made us lose the game,” he explained.

Amanda Nhlngethwa

These young stars from Mpumalanga have put the province on the map, these national COSACSA summer ball games have exposed their talent to the country. It was a sight-seeing opportunity for all the players who were participating in the game.

Amanda Nhlengethwa

Volleyball is not taken serious in South Africa but in universities it is taken seriously, because students are being offered various opportunities where they play USSA, provincials etc but after graduation it is over.

Competing in a championship is not only about winning, but also about losing and having hope and faith to get back and strike again until you make it.

The one bread can feed a community organisation offers to assist where the is a need to children and community members who are suffering financially.

The one bread can feed a community was founded in 2019 by Mr. Nqoba Thabede who is an educator by profession. This organisation is based in a small town in Kwazulu-Natal, Pongola they don’t have branches outside Pongola, but Mr. Thabede has bigger plans for the organisation to expand.

The organisation does many things in the community including a feeding scheme whereby they visit certain household with groceries and some other good things to make sure that they don’t go to bed hungry.

Mrs. Thandekile Nkosi who was helped by the organisation said, “For days we would go to bed hungry, me and my children until one of our neighbours told Mr Thabede he was touched and om that day my family was well sorted, and we never went to bed hungry again.”

The organisations’ main purpose is to reach every family in need and assist children with school uniform. The organisation provides shelter, clothes, food, blankets and quality education.

When asked what they hope to achieve with this organisation, Mr Thabede said, “As an organisation what we want to achieve is simple and straightforward, is to help those who are unable to help themselves to give them clothes, food, shelter and quality education. By the end of this year the goal is to help a lot of children around our community and I’m so proud of the changes we’re bringing in the community.”

In February 2022, the organisation managed to donate 12 pairs of shoes in Tholulwazi Primary school, Itshelejuba Primary and Ncotshane Primary school. 12 children managed to get new shoes at the beginning of the year.

This organisation thanked community members to give back to the community by donating money and other things.

Ms Londeka Nyawo one of the donators said,” I am very happy to see smiling faces from those little faces that’s why I decided to give something to help those children because I also had a tough upbringing, I know the situation of being laughed at because of how I dress.”

The one bread can feed a community is there to bring change and give back to the community by doing good deeds.

The organisation has shown what the word Ubuntu means. They portrayed kindness. Life is full of opportunities that need courage to grab them, and give back to those in need is something that needs to be appreciated every day.

Polyandrous marriage has landed in South Africa!!

In South Africa we live in a democratic country where by everyone is equal and where by everyone has got a right to say something.in the past couple of weeks there was an announcement saying polyandry will be legalized this announcement has shaken the whole country because everyone has their own opinions regarding this matter.

As South Africans we can't praise polygamy and judge polyandry, Both of these marriages need money just like men where the are able to take care of their wives. They are also women who are loaded in cash they will be able to take care of their husband's at the end of the day we are all equal and we must do things 50-50 this is a comment from a South African citizen.

MUSA MSELEKU a famous polygamist said" Women are using this card of equality wrong.in this regard because polygamy is not something to satisfy your personal or physical needs, but it is something about building families. This is the beginning of a crucial public discover that will redefine the concept of marriage in South Africa ,This whole process will make issues that may make some of us uncomfortable but it will encourage a huge dialogue  within South Africans and international communities"
Zelebs.com

                 Example of a Fraternal Polyandry

This is Rajo Verna who lives in a small Dehradun village with her baby son and her five husbands.Rajo stands by tradition All her husbands are brothers and she is asked to sleep with a different brother every night. This led to the confusion about the real biological father of her 18 month old son.Rajo said that she was asked to accept all her husbands as the practice has been continuing in her community for years. This polyandry situation is Real!!
